Hyderabad: Minister for Tourism and Culture Jupally Krishna Rao said the State government is formulating action plans to give a new shape to water tourism and adventure sports in Telangana.
The Minister on Wednesday inaugurated the water sports facility set up by the Amaravathi Boating Club in Hussain Sagar as part of the development of water tourism. Later, Jupally along with TGTDC Chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy took a ride in the Hussain Sagar lake.
Speaking on the occasion, Jupally Krishna Rao said the Telangana State has immense potential for temple tourism, water and adventure sports tourism, along with beautiful tourist destinations, ancient and historical places.
"Water sports have been gaining immense popularity in recent times. Keeping this in mind, the State government is taking steps to promote water tourism and adventure sports in Telangana. As part of its endeavour, the government is working to examine water resources across the state and identify areas suitable for tourism development," he disclosed.
He explained that if the Somashila backwaters, Nagarjuna Sagar, other reservoirs and Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad are developed, the water tourism sector in Telangana will be developed significantly, providing employment opportunities to the locals and increasing the State's income.
He further stated said that there is a need to purify the water of Hussain Sagar and completely clean it. Jupally also criticised the previous BRS government for neglecting the tourism sector in the last ten years.
